Maria Carrillo and Rancho Cotate are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Pumas will welcome the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Maria Carrillo's offense. They fell just short of Cardinal Newman by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. The Pumas have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Paige Richards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rancho Cotate). They never let Antioch get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Tuesday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Izabella Harumi was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hayden Munson, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Rancho Cotate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Maria Carrillo's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Rancho Cotate, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Maria Carrillo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Rancho Cotate struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maria Carrillo came out on top in a nail-biter against Rancho Cotate in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 14-12. Will the Pumas repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
