After two lead changes,
Florence (Colo.) took the lead for good when
Scott Sandavol ran for a touchdown with 11:00 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to beat
St. Mary's (Colorado Springs, Colo.) 34-14 on Saturday.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at seven. The Huskies took the lead for good on a touchdown run by Sandavol in the fourth quarter.
Florence's standout player in the win was Sandavol. The senior ran for two touchdowns.
FHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 42-12.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Huskies, which lost to Kent Denver last week, 41-6. The defeat comes as a step back for St. Mary's, which notched a 21-20 victory over Mead in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Pirates' 2-game winning streak.
In a 2A Tri-Peaks game next week St. Mary's (2-1) takes on Manitou Springs, and Florence (2-1) will go up against Alamosa also in a 2A Tri-Peaks game.
