After a string of seven wins, The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines''s good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Roma. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial has struggled against Roma recently, as their contest on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Emiliano Colunga, who rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Colunga's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Moralez, who picked up 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Roma's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from David Galan, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 231 yards and a touchdown on only 16 passes. Ediel Garcia was another key contributor, gaining 178 total yards and three touchdowns.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 7-1. As for Roma, their victory was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial will take on Mission Veterans Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Mission Veterans Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial likes a good challenge. As for Roma, they will be playing at home against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1096th, while Roma is ranked 477th).
