Two dominant backs in Kamauri Montgomery and Broderick Taylor are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Victoria West Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Miller Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Victoria West walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 56-20 victory over the Hawks at home. Victoria West pushed the score to 49-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Harlingen South cut but never quite recovered from.
Camden Repper was his usual excellent self, rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 168 yards and a touchdown while completing 78.6% of his passes. Repper's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Montgomery and his 118 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Victoria West's win.
Meanwhile, Miller put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 49-28 margin over Vela. Given Miller's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Vela is ranked 409th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Taylor continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 274 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Taylor hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for ten straight games. Corey Holmes was another key contributor, picking up 159 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The win makes it two in a row for Victoria West and bumps their season record up to 6-6. As for Miller, they have yet to lose a matchup on the road this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record.
Victoria West came up short against Miller in their previous meeting back in October, falling 52-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Miller's Taylor, who rushed for 294 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Now that Victoria West knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
