It was a good run, but the Calvert Hall Cardinals unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 56-44 to St. Frances Academy. While losing is never fun, Calvert Hall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while St. Frances Academy is ranked ninth).
Despite the loss, Calvert Hall still got an impressive performance from Brendan Johnson, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 63.6% of Calvert Hall's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tyrin Bizzelle was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Calvert Hall's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-16. As for St. Frances Academy, their win bumped their record up to 21-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvert Hall will take on Mount St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Calvert Hall focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday. As for St. Frances Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in St. Frances Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
