On Tuesday, the Boulder Creek Jaguars faced the Sunnyslope Vikings in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Boulder Creek walked away with a 71-64 victory over Sunnyslope. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Boulder Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Bhesania, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Rowan McKenzie, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rider Portela, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Portela hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of John Mattingly, who scored 15 points.
Boulder Creek has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Sunnyslope, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5.
Boulder Creek will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (O'Connor is ranked 17th, while Boulder Creek is ranked 14th). As for Sunnyslope, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pinnacle at 7:00 p.m.
