The El Segundo Eagles will face off against the Valley Christian Defenders at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. El Segundo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Valley Christian will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: El Segundo extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Eagles came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against South.
Jacy Lindsay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sienna Mayer was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Marilyn McCaverty, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Maranatha. The Defenders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by ten runs or more this season.
Rachel Zhang made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Zhang was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Kaylee Garvin looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March.
Back at the plate, Olivia Wise and Kayla Martin did most of the damage at the plate: Wise got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Martin went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Wise a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrielle Ramirez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Valley Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maranatha only posted an OBP of .176.
Valley Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for El Segundo, their victory bumped their record up to 21-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. El Segundo hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
El Segundo took their win against Valley Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Defenders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
