Juab hasn't had much luck against Spanish Fork recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wasps will square off against the Dons at 3:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Juab didn't have quite enough to beat Canyon View and fell 13-11.
Delaney Long made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mollie Blankenagel, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They didn't even let the Thunderbirds on the board, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Dons, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Anaca Olsen's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lia Higginson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Audrey Overturf, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Juab's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Spanish Fork, their record now sits at 9-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Juab hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Juab might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Spanish Fork when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Wasps avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
