The Gulfport Admirals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Harrison Central. While losing is never fun, Gulfport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Harrison Central is ranked 29th).
Harrison Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shaun Murray led the charge by scoring 13 points along with two steals. Murray has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaden Eckford, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Gulfport has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Harrison Central, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-7.
Gulfport will head out on the road to face off against Ocean Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ocean Springs has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests. Harrison Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Ridgeland at 11:30 a.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Ridgeland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Thursday.
