After two games on the road, Carlmont is heading back home. They will take on The Fremont Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Carlmont was the victim of a tough 48-28 loss at the hands of Woodside. Carlmont was down 48-20 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Carlmont got a solid performance out of Braeden Kumer, who rushed for 201 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Kumer was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards. Daniel Mattioli was in the mix as well, providing Carlmont with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Fremont earned a 31-24 win over Santa Clara on Friday. The victory was just what Fremont needed coming off of a 35-15 defeat in their prior match.
Fremont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Henry Buenrostro led the charge by rushing for 56 yards and two touchdowns.
The opposite results left the teams with opposite records: Woodside's victory pushed their record up to 6-2, while Carlmont's loss dropped theirs down to 2-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Carlmont has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 226.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Fremont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 223 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
