West Mesa is 8-0 against Rio Grande since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Mesa Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Rio Grande Ravens at 7:00 p.m. West Mesa is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Saturday, West Mesa faced La Cueva in a battle between two of the state's top teams. West Mesa was beaten by La Cueva 54-26.
West Mesa might have lost, but man, Elijah Brody was a machine: he rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 279 yards on 13 of 35 attempts.
Meanwhile, Rio Grande earned a 22-13 victory over Shiprock on Friday.
Rio Grande's win bumped their season record to 2-6 while West Mesa's loss dropped theirs to 4-4.
Everything came up roses for West Mesa against Rio Grande when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 53-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Mesa since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
