North Lenoir has gone 9-1 against South Lenoir recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Tuesday, North Lenoir got the win against James Kenan by a conclusive 19-2. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.
Garrett Byrd was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Byrd was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, Mason Sasser and Wriston Honeycutt dominated on the mound. Sasser went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Honeycutt went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Sasser has posted since back in March.
Back at the plate, North Lenoir got a massive performance out of Carter Chadwick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jayden Miller, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
North Lenoir was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, South Lenoir got themselves on the board against Wallace-Rose Hill on Tuesday, but Wallace-Rose Hill never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Bulldogs. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Gage Howard was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Howard, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
South Lenoir pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for North Lenoir, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Lenoir has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like South Lenoir struggles in that department as they've averaged .507. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Lenoir skirted past South Lenoir 4-2 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
