Softball Recap: Millennium Wins Going Away Against River Islands

Millennium barely beat River Islands the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons put the hurt on the Riptide with a sharp 17-3 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Hayden Faaborg made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Lanie Gonzalez and Nora Coutts did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Coutts went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Coutts has posted since back in March. Adrian Washburn was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Millennium and bumps their season record up to 9-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for River Islands, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Millennium will venture away from home to square off against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.6 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for River Islands, they will head out to challenge Venture Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
