Make it eight blowout wins for the Northwood Academy Chargers this season. They took their matchup on the road on Monday with ease, bagging a 72-37 win over John Paul II. The win was nothing new for Northwood Academy as they're now sitting on ten straight.
It was another big night for alayah birch, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Birch is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Wyndham, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
John Paul II lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brady Mahoney, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Mahoney has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cayce Graves, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Northwood Academy pushed their record up to 17-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for John Paul II, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwood Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Ashley Hall will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Chargers are ranked ninth). As for John Paul II, they will head out on the road to take on the Sundevils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
