The Hickory Hornets had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They slipped by Ellwood City 42-41.
Ellwood City's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Joseph Roth, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Lake was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Hickory's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Ellwood City, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hickory will face off against Girard at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Ellwood City, they will head out on the road to face off against Slippery Rock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
