Softball Recap: Girls Prep Has No Trouble Against Franklin County

While Girls Prep didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Franklin County Rebels with a sharp 7-1 victory on Saturday. The Bruisers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Addison Jones tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jayla Gladden was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Sylia Hicks also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Girls Prep and bumps their season record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Franklin County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Girls Prep will square off against Knoxville Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Franklin County, they will take on South Pittsburg in a tournament on Saturday. South Pittsburg's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Franklin County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
