Kuna is 2-8 against Eagle since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Kavemen are taking a road trip to take on the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Kuna comes in on four and Eagle on five.
While Kuna's victory against Boise wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Kavemen skirted past the Brave 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Kavemen have posted since March 21st.
Rylee Mangum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, Kuna saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elle Wemhoff, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Amber Harwood was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Kuna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Eagle got themselves on the board against Meridian on Friday, but Meridian never followed suit. They blew past the Warriors 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Bargen was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie McManigal, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aly Vieira, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Eagle's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Kuna, their record now sits at 11-9.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kuna hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Eagle struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
