The Cristo Rey Research Triangle Bulls pushed their score all the way to 58 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 62-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Liberty Christian. While losing is never fun, Cristo Rey Research Triangle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 593rd, while Liberty Christian is ranked 259th).
Christian Gill and Jamaal Miller certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Gill scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Miller dropped a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 46.6% of Cristo Rey Research Triangle's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Liberty Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ian Sterrett led the charge by scoring 21 points along with three steals. Sterrett hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Young, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Cristo Rey Research Triangle now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Liberty Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cristo Rey Research Triangle will take on Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Liberty Christian, they will be playing at home against Southside Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Southside Christian has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Liberty Christian will arrive with three straight victories.
