The Villages Charter has gone 8-2 against Umatilla recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Buffalo will take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (The Villages Charter 2.4, Umatilla 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While The Villages Charter's win against Citrus wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buffalo skirted past the Hurricanes 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Buffalo in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won four in a row.
Torin Foley and Lincoln Gagne did most of the damage at the plate: Foley went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Gagne scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Gagne posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marcello Cortale, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Thursday. Umatilla fell 5-2 to Mount Dora Christian Academy. Umatilla hasn't had much luck with Mount Dora Christian Academy recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Wyatt Strawbridge was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Umatilla is 8-4 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-7 otherwise. Strawbridge was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Strawbridge wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Ross, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
The Villages Charter's win bumped their record up to 20-5. As for Umatilla, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. The Villages Charter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Umatilla struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went The Villages Charter's way against Umatilla in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as The Villages Charter made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buffalo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
