5A Region III District 18 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Casey Williams of Alief Elsik ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region III District 18 this season against Eisenhower last week. Williams ran for 59 yards on the play and finished with 72 on the day as his team topped the Eagles.
Alief Taylor was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. The Lions beat Nimitz 28-7 earlier in the week.
Alief Elsik's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caleb Bedford threw for 90 and one touchdown and Williams had 88 yards receiving. Joshua Taylor helped Alief Elsik's passing attack out by catching one ball for two yards.
Alief Elsik's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bedford has thrown for 515 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Williams has 23 catches for 397 yards. Caleb Cormier leads the league in rushing with 300 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 18 this week will be when Aldine takes on Bill Barron's team. As it stands, the Mustangs are in second, while the Rams are in fourth.
Alief Hastings moved up to 750 from 855 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bears were able to make the jump by falling to Aldine 23-13.
