The Oak Grove Warriors will take on the Brandon Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Oak Grove sitting on four straight victories and Brandon on ten.
With a playoff game on the line, Oak Grove rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Meridian 35-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Oak Grove, who have now won five contests by 30 points or more so far this season.
Aj Maddox was on fire: he threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Damari Jefferson was another key contributor, picking up 79 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Brandon faced Pearl in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Brandon enjoyed a cozy 42-25 victory over Pearl on Friday.
Brandon found their leader in underclassman Tyson Robinson, who rushed for 64 yards and three touchdowns. Robinson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Varnes, who threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Oak Grove to 10-1 and Brandon to 10-2.
Oak Grove lost to Brandon on the road by a decisive 38-20 margin when the teams last played back in October. Can Oak Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
