Basketball Game Preview: Hunter Wolverines vs. West Jordan Jaguars

Hunter is 2-8 against West Jordan since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Hunter Wolverines will be playing at home against the West Jordan Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Hunter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.

Hunter took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Kearns 51-48. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wolverines as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Hunter had a senior duo take command as Keaton Miller dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds and Dominick Phanolath dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Those ten boards gave Phanolath a new career-high. Samiu Taukiuvea was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Hunter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, West Jordan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 75-49 to Juan Diego Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Soaring Eagle are ranked 32nd).

Hunter's win bumped their record up to 6-12. As for West Jordan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.

Hunter took their victory against West Jordan when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 79-57. Does Hunter have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Jordan turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
