Bishop Kelly has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Bishop Kelly Knights and the Eagle Mustangs will round out the year against one another at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bishop Kelly scored the most points they've had all season to find success two weeks ago. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Skyview 65-16 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Bishop Kelly has managed all season.
Meanwhile, Eagle entered their tilt with Centennial with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Eagle strolled past Centennial with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 54-35.
Mary (molly) johnson and Paige Cofer were among the main playmakers for Eagle as the former went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 5 assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Cofer's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkley Jones, who scored five points.
Bishop Kelly's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Eagle, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Bishop Kelly came up short against Eagle in their previous meeting back in November of 2017, falling 48-42. Can Bishop Kelly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
