The Deshler Dragons's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with a 40-32 victory over Red Cloud. This was payback for Deshler, who suffered a 53-40 loss the last time these two teams met.
Deshler's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Nash, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Kleen, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Red Cloud saw an underclassman step up: Wyatt Frey scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Frey is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gage Ely, who scored six points along with eight assists.
Even though they lost, Red Cloud were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deshler only racked up five assists.
Deshler is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Red Cloud, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deshler is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. As for Red Cloud, they will square off against the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Kenesaw is ranked 218th, while the Warriors are ranked 201st).
