There's no place like home for Walker Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Rhea County Golden Eagles on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Presswood made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Anzleigh Battle was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Madison Thomas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Walker Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rhea County only posted an OBP of .286.
Walker Valley pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Rhea County, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walker Valley will head out to square off against Girls Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Rhea County, they will challenge Whitwell at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Eagles are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
