Baseball Game Preview: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons vs. St. Thomas More Sabers

The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons will take on the St. Thomas More Sabers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will be strutting in after a win while St. Thomas More will be coming in after a loss.

On Monday, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley got the win against LeRoy by a conclusive 9-2. Considering the Falcons have won six games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Brayden Elliott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Elliott was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, David Hull and Conner Kinzinger did most of the damage at the plate: Hull got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs, while Kinzinger went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Hull has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Graydon Leonard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas More came up short against Rantoul on Monday and fell 7-4.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley now has a winning record of 7-6. As for St. Thomas More, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Thomas More in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Sabers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
