Patrick Henry extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-3. They fell 18-13 to the Blacksburg Bruins. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 16-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
Tatum Ziccardy was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and 14 unearned) runs off 15 hits. Ziccardy was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Sarah Hobson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Arianna Williams was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Blacksburg, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.0 runs this season.
On Blacksburg's side, they let Katie Jones and Beila Watkins run wild. Jones went 4-for-6 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs, while Watkins went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two triples gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Spence, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
While Patrick Henry had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
