The Apache Junction Prospectors''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Poston Butte 63-21. Apache Junction has struggled against Poston Butte recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Poston Butte's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Lloyd, who rushed for 178 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Lloyd was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Whitman, who rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Apache Junction's loss was their fourth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Bradshaw Mountain and 9-3 Prescott (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.5% over those games). As for Poston Butte, their victory bumped their record up to 4-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apache Junction will take on Snowflake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Snowflake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday. As for Poston Butte, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gila Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gila Ridge is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
