III Section II recap October 29, 2013
Sabino's Zach Joseph rumbled for the longest rushing play in III Section II this season in his game against Douglas last week. Joseph ran for 99 yards on the play and finished with 177 on the day as his team topped the Bulldogs.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Sabino beat Douglas 69-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Sean Fitzsimmons was a force in the backfield as Empire beat Catalina.
Fitzsimmons was a passing and rushing force as the Ravens bested the Trojans.
Emilio Araiza threw for 189 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 6-8 with 0 interceptions.
Fitzsimmons was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 516 yards as Empire beat Levi Salazar's team. Teammate Chance Hatfield added to the ground attack by rushing for 248 yards.
Sabino's Araiza and Matt Bushman led III Section II in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Araiza has thrown for 1,536 yards this season, while Bushman has 49 catches for 1,220 yards. Fitzsimmons from W.T. Jeffries' team leads the league in rushing with 1,528 yards.
The Ravens' Hatfield needs only 53 yards against the Bulldogs next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 190 carries Hatfield has accumulated 947 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pueblo takes on the Sabercats. The Warriors are currently in third, while Sabino is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Pueblo takes on the Sabercats. Adrian Koch's team has allowed 238 points this season, while Sabino has given up 195. The Warriors allowed 21 points last week as they fell to Cholla.
The Sabercats took down Douglas 69-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Araiza ran for 10 yards during the win.
