It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Tanner Rattlers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Lamar County by a score of 64-55. The win was just what Tanner needed coming off of a 48-21 defeat in their prior matchup.
Tanner's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karl Parham, who rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Tailin Hall was another key contributor, rushing for 160 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry.
When it comes to explaining why Lamar County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jordan Godsey. Despite the final result, he rushed for 309 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Godsey is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander Bradford, who threw for 264 yards and a touchdown on only 19 passes.
Tanner's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Lamar County, they have yet to win a matchup on the road this season, leaving them with a 7-4 record.
Tanner will square off against Pisgah at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pisgah knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 games -- so hopefully Tanner likes a good challenge. Lamar County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
