The Brandon Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Meridian Wildcats with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Brandon snuck past Meridian with a 41-35 win on Friday. Given Brandon's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked third, while Meridian is ranked 26th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nate Blount iv got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Varnes, who threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt.
Brandon's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.3 points per game. As for Meridian, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-5.
Brandon will head out on the road to face off against Northwest Rankin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northwest Rankin is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Meridian, they will be playing at home against Pearl at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
