After a string of three wins, the Locust Fork Hornets's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 71-47 walloping at the hands of Susan Moore. Locust Fork was down 60-32 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Locust Fork's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hope Evans, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Evans has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Faith Evans, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Susan Moore's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lani Smallwood, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Smallwood is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 18 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylie Butler, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 assists.
Locust Fork's loss dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Susan Moore, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-4.
Locust Fork will challenge the Mustangs at 6:30 a.m. on Friday. Southeastern will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Hornets are ranked 64th). As for Susan Moore, they will be playing at home against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
