Metro-East Lutheran hasn't had much luck against Althoff Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Metro-East Lutheran will be playing at home against Althoff Catholic at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Metro-East Lutheran took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 22-3 margin over Cahokia. The contest marked the Knights' most dominant win of the season so far.
Ben Schilbe made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schilbe was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gage Trendley, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew Barber, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Metro-East Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in five consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Althoff Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They put the hurt on the Meteors with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by ten runs or more this season.
Tyler Pollock looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Bo Gomric was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Dowell, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Metro-East Lutheran pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Althoff Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Metro-East Lutheran might still be hurting after the 17-2 defeat they got from Althoff Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Metro-East Lutheran avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
