The Brown County Hornets will challenge the Routt Catholic Rockets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brown County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Routt Catholic's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Brown County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mendon Unity 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since April 23rd.
Meanwhile, while Routt Catholic put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Seymour. The Rockets blew past the Indians 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Brock Runyon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Talon Thompson was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Routt Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seymour only posted a batting average of .190.
Routt Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Brown County, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-9.
Brown County was able to grind out a solid victory over Routt Catholic when the teams last played back in April, winning 7-3. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
