After flying high against the Newton County Cougars last Tuesday, the Pearl Pirates came back down to earth. Pearl fell just short of Brookhaven by a score of 66-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Jaylen Haliburton was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points for Brookhaven. The match was Haliburton's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Ross, who scored 9 points along with 7 rebounds.
Pearl's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Brookhaven, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Pearl will head out on the road to face off against Florence at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Brookhaven, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lawrence County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lawrence County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 227th, while Brookhaven is ranked 53rd).
