Liberty Baptist Academy extended their winning streak to eight on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 13-4 in the process. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Sandy Valley Sidewinders a 20-0 shutout. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Angelo Tatonetti and Ryan Campbell made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Tatonetti pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Campbell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Tatonetti has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Tatonetti got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Campbell went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Campbell has launched this season.
In other batting news, Bryce Miano and Aiden Schmitz did most of the damage at the plate: Miano went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Schmitz got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Schmitz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dominic Giannini, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Liberty Baptist Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in six consecutive matches.
As for Sandy Valley, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-7. Surprisingly, this marked their sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
On Sandy Valley's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Grossguth, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Coming up, Liberty Baptist Academy will host Beaver Dam at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sandy Valley, they will take on Pahranagat Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
