Taft has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Mendota Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Taft had no problem doing just that on Friday. They really took it to Rosamond for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-34 win at home.
Cameron Cash was a one-man wrecking crew for Taft as he rushed for 215 yards and five touchdowns on only 14 carries. Cash was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Cash Clark was in the mix too, providing Taft with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Mendota took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-7 win over Foothill. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Mendota just coasted through the last quarter.
Mendota relied on the efforts of Bernardo Camacho, who threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes, and Donnie Munoz, who rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 5-6.
