Charleston extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-9. They lost 13-2 to the Mt. Zion Braves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Braves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-6 on Thursday.
Lainie Keefer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Avery Beals, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
As for Mt. Zion, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-9. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
On Mt. Zion's side, Nikki Ellegood made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Ellegood was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Avelyn Ethell was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Addy Rotz was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Charleston will take on Richland County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mt. Zion, they will face off against Robinson on Saturday. The Braves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Maroons have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
