The Gateway Olympians will face off against the Sierra Stallions at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Gateway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Gateway barely beat Overland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Olympians were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Trailblazers on Thursday. The Olympians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Mervin Loya, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. He also got three hits, which is notable because Gateway is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 1-4 otherwise. Jakob Petersen was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Gateway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Sierra didn't have quite enough to beat Mitchell on Thursday and fell 6-5. The Stallions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rodrigo Marquez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Marquez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing five bases while going 2-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last eight games he's played.
In other batting news, Isaac Christman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Romeo Diaz, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
The win got Gateway back to even at 4-4. As for Sierra, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Sierra's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gateway has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Sierra, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Gateway's sizable advantage in that area, the Stallions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gateway took their victory against Sierra in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-3 score. Do the Olympians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stallions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
