Basketball Recap: Riverdale Takes a Loss

After flying high against Siegel last Tuesday, Riverdale came back down to earth. The Riverdale Warriors were beaten by the Blackman Blaze 74-36 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Blaze are ranked 13th).

Riverdale's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Madison Taylor, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points, and Alana Waller, who posted 12 points. That's the most points Taylor has posted since back in November of 2023.

It was another big night for Lyriq Mastin, who went 5 for 9 en route to 17 points and five steals for Blackman. Mastin's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amirah Herring, who had 14 points and six boards.

Riverdale's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Blackman, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Riverdale has already played their next matchup, a 54-26 victory against LEAD Academy on the 18th. As for Blackman, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-33 win against Oakland on the 21st.
