The West Boylston Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Greenfield Green Wave at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Boylston comes in on nine and Greenfield on six.
West Boylston can't be too worried about heading out to take on Greenfield: they just beat Franklin County Tech at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Lions came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Greenfield made easy work of Millis on Wednesday and carried off a 9-1 win. Considering the Green Wave have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
MacKenzie Paulin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Lemay, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gloria McDonald, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Greenfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Millis only posted a batting average of .167.
West Boylston's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Greenfield, their record is now 17-6.
West Boylston couldn't quite get it done against Greenfield when the teams last played back in June of 2022 as they fell 6-2. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
