Meridian is 0-5 against Mt. Zion since March of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Hawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Braves at 4:00 p.m. Meridian will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Meridian beat Nokomis 5-1.

Ashley Schelling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Childers, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Shelby Renfro was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Mt. Zion made sure to put some runs up on the board against Williamsville on Tuesday. The Braves were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Bullets. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won 15 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Mt. Zion got a massive performance out of Addy Rotz, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Chloe Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meridian's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Zion, their record is now 19-9.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Meridian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Mt. Zion struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Meridian couldn't quite finish off Mt. Zion in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
