The Portola Bulldogs will face off against the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Portola will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
Portola is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Katella 42-3 on the road.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portola to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joshua Whang, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown. Whang showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 58 yards. Timothy Grettenberg was another key back, rushing for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 7-7 at halftime, University was not quite Buena Park's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 15-7 to the Coyotes. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Carl Oldham put forth a good effort for the losing side as he picked up 107 receiving yards and a touchdown. He is becoming a predictor of University's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is 3-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't).
University wouldn't let Buena Park keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. University can thank Michael Gasper and Damari Carter for forcing both of them.
Portola's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5. As for University, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Portola won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in August of 2023, slipping by University 35-34. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was University's Koa Saito, who threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns.
