Softball Recap: Chavez Wins Going Away Against Arleta

Chavez had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Arleta on Friday. The Eagles blew past the Mustangs 12-3. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Gabby Duran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Yliana Rodriguez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Melody Lopez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Chavez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Chavez has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Arleta, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.

Chavez will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Poly at 6:00 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Arleta, they will be taking part in a tournament against La Canada at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
