The Concord Yellowjackets stacked a fifth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 74-39 victory over Union City on the road. Given Concord's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while Union City is ranked 622nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Concord to victory were Cieara Barrett and Bradie Lehman. Barrett scored 19 points along with eight assists and five rebounds, while Lehman scored 24 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lehman has scored all season. Maria Stevens was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Union City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Adalynn Rumsey. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Rumsey scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Calli Wilkinson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
The victory was the third in a row for Concord, bringing their record for this year to 8-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Union City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Concord will take on East Jackson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Union City, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Pennfield at 7:00 p.m. Pennfield is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
