Softball Recap: Sullivan County Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Sullivan County extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 7-3 in the process. They put the hurt on the Sayre Redskins with a sharp 16-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Griffins, who have now won six contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Emilia Viveiros spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kayla Fowler and Mariah Hallabuk did most of the damage at the plate: Fowler went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs, while Hallabuk went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Fowler has posted since back in March of 2024. Bailey Bogart was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Sullivan County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Sayre, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8. Redskins fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Sullivan County since on Wednesday.

On Sayre's side, Olivia Thompson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Thompson has snagged this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sullivan County will take on Bucktail at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Griffins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucks have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Sayre, they will square off against Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
