Desert Heights Prep is a perfect 6-0 against Antelope since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Yote will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Rams at 1:00 p.m. Desert Heights Prep will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Desert Heights Prep is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Valley Lutheran 22-1 on Thursday. Fans of the Yote have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Tanner Preston and Kaleb Smith were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Preston tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Smith struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. At bat, Preston got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Smith went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base was Smith's first of the season.
In other batting news, Brady Mondlak was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was James Thomason, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Desert Heights Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2025.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Antelope ultimately got the result they hoped for last Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Salome 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since March 17, 2025.
The team relied heavily on Sebastian Marquez, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Mariano Valencia was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Desert Heights Prep's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Antelope, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-3.
Desert Heights Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Antelope in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, winning 4-1. Do the Yote have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
