Wakefield and Wake Forest are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Wakefield Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Wake Forest Cougars at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Wake Forest took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wakefield, who comes in off a win.
Even though Rolesville scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, Wakefield still came out on top. Wakefield walked away with a 77-64 win over Rolesville. Given Wakefield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Rolesville is ranked 333rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Taj Boone-Chambers and Syncere Burnette were among the main playmakers for Wakefield as the former scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals and the latter scored 30 points along with seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burnette has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tristian Pretlow, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. Their tough 61-37 defeat to Knightdale might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Wake Forest has suffered yet this season.
Wakefield's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points per game. As for Wake Forest, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
Wakefield came up short against Wake Forest in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 72-68. Can Wakefield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
