Monarch has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Greeley West Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Monarch pushed their score all the way to 31 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Longmont at home by a decisive 48-31 margin.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Riley Montemayor, who threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Owen Mellish made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 48-6, which was the final score in Greeley West's tilt against Windsor on Thursday. Greeley West was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-0.
Monarch's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.67 points per game. Greeley West has not been sharp this season, as they've lost seven of their first eight games, which leaves them at a 1-7 record this season.
Monarch took their win against Greeley West in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 21-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monarch since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
