San Pedro is 8-2 against Banning since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Pirates will face off against the Pilots at 3:15 p.m. San Pedro is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games.
While San Pedro's win against Carson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Colts 2-1 on Thursday.
Caroline Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, San Pedro's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Breya Ventura, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Narbonne typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Banning proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Gauchos 15-1. The result was nothing new for the Pilots, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Ariel Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzalez was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kali Sue was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Talanoa, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Banning was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .441 or higher in three consecutive contests.
San Pedro pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Banning, their record is now 9-14.
Banning's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. San Pedro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Banning, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will San Pedro keep running through batters, or will the Pilots buck the trend?
San Pedro was able to grind out a solid win over Banning in their previous matchup back in April, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
